Look Younger #4 - Face Moisturizer

Does your face look dull? Do your wrinkles seem to have gotten deeper? Most likely you are suffering from dry winter skin syndrome!

What to do? Try celebrity skin pro Sonya Dakar's trick (clients; Gwyneth, Fergie and Megan Fox to name a few) for a natural glow: Use a gentle cleansing scrub to buff away dry skin and then massage a few drops of antioxidant rich oil such as Sweet Almond Oil or Grape Seed Oil (found at Byerly's, Lunds or Kowalski's -by the olive oil) into your face and neck. Sound Greasy? Its not! These oils don't clog pores like mineral oils do.

To confirm this I asked Top Twin Cities make-up artist Benjamin (from Accolades Salon), what he thought, and guess what? He uses Grape Seed Oil on his face too! So I had to try it. And it really does make a difference! My skin is glowing and my wrinkles have been plumped! ~Liza

BLOW DRY TIPS - WAVY hair

Would you like smoothness and shine? Use a paddle brush while blow-drying your hair!!

Towel dry, or partially air dry hair till damp. Add preferred styling cream, straightening lotion, or smoothing gloss from ends to roots.

Press the Paddle Brush firmly against the scalp and brush down thru the ends while blow-drying. The more firmly you press and pull the hair the straighter it will dry. Brush and blow-dry till hair 100% dry - that is KEY to getting lasting straight, shiny hair. Once fully dry, keep brushing till hair is cool to the touch, as this 'sets' the blowout.

P.S. If you have stubborn wavy pieces around the face, dry this area first. Use a medium size round brush, and pull hair firmly from the roots towards nose as you blow-dry. Once your 'face framing' is fully dry then use your Paddle Brush on the rest. ~Liza

BLOW-DRY TIPS - Volume Tip #1

Would you like more volume? Use a paddle brush while blow-drying your hair!!

Towel dry, or partially air dry hair till damp. Add preferred volumizer to the roots. Then flip head over and brush from neck towards crown while blow-drying. Then from ear towards crown. The idea is to brush the hair opposite the direction it naturally falls while drying. Keep flipping hair around head and brushing till hair is 100% dry. Once dry, flip head upside down again, and use your fingertips to rough-up the roots till they no longer feel warm (this is called 'setting the roots.')

P.S. for more volume around the face dry this area first. Use a medium size round brush, and pull hair firmly from the roots towards nose as you blow-dry. Once your 'face framing' is fully dry then use your Paddle Brush on the rest. ~Liza

Ojon Problem?

One possible problem with the Ojon Dry-Shampoo that I love. Its a little touchy. Apparently the nozzle clogs easily. I didn't realize that it says to 'shake well' till mine was almost empty, and then when I did shake it, the nozzle clogged shortly thereafter. My suggestion: make sure it sprays ok at the store and either 'shake well' from day one, or don't shake it at all. And keep your receipt just in case.

There is a hot new item showing up everywhere. And it just might be my new best friend. Translucent, Spray-on, Dry Shampoo! Overslept your alarm? Bangs greasy halfway thru the day? Got a little sweaty at the gym? No problem! Now you can just spray the oil away!

As of now my favorite translucent spray-on Dry Shampoo that I have tried is Ojon Rub-Out Dry Cleanser. It smells amazing, completely drys out oil and amps up the volume! Look Younger #3 - Glowy Cheeks

Time to get your glow on! Forget powder blush this time of year. Instead reach for cream blush. It gives cheeks a healthy glow that will make your cheekbones stand out more and give you a mini face lift, since the glow from the cream blush draws the eyes upward. Dont have cream blush? Use lipstick! After applying your daily moisturizer, rub a bit of color into your cheeks. Instant uplift!

Got Scalp Problems?

Don't worry your not alone. About half of my clients have scalp problems this time of year. Try one of these tricks to help your scalp:

1) Don't skip your conditioner. In the winter your hair and scalp need double, to triple, the amount of moisture than they need the rest of the year. Use matching Shampoo and conditioner for the most balanced pH and rub the conditioner on your scalp.

2) Rub aloe gel onto your scalp at night and wash in the morning.

3) Soak your scalp with olive, avocado, or coconut oil for ten min before you shampoo.

4) Buy Aveda's Scalp Balancing shampoo and conditioner. They work great to solve many scalp issues. (P.s. They have to be used together for correct results)

WINTER HAIR

Most of my clients have been coming in to the salon frustrated with their winter hair. Their hair is limp, dry, fuzzy and splitting! It takes longer to dry and it refuse to straighten or curl! If these are problems you are having, then keep reading!

1) Put your summer shampoo and conditioner on the shelf and switch to a more moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.

2) After you have washed your hair, but before your hair is dry, scrunch a moisturizing creme into your hair. The product that is flying off our shelf's right now is: Universal Styling Creme (Aveda).

Universal Styling Creme is a super condensed, super yummy smelling moisturizer that gives straight and curly hair back its shine and bounce! Bonus: because it is so condensed the bottle last for a long time. (for thin, fine hair, use about a pea size amount, for average hair try a dime size amount and add more as needed)
