Doing Day 2 Hair

Day 2 of unwashed hair. Do you feel greasy? Flat? Frizzy? Perfect! You are ready to look fabulous! Why? Because your slightly dirty hair will hold curls and backcombing wonderfully!

1) Brush your hair. I like to use a large Paddle Brush because it gets down to the scalp and spreads all the oils through the hair.

2) Backcomb. (see post below)

3) Spray ends with Heat Protection Spray and use a curling iron to bend ends. Use a Large barrel iron for big waves or about a 1inch barrel for tighter waves. Notice: no curls in crown area - just on the mid-shaft and ends.

4) Curl bangs with large Curling Iron or Styling Iron (flat iron that curls and straightens). Sometimes I have to spray a few spots in the bangs with Dry Shampoo if they got a little too oily.

5) Special touch - shine! Once ends are cool, either spray a shine spray on the ends or take pomade or a light wax (or in a pinch cheap hand lotion -its mostly wax), rub all over hands and finger through waves for definition and separation.

6) Hairspray! Use an aerosol hairspray (wet hairspray might wreck your curls) and spray everything one more time!!!

Learn to Backcomb!

Yes, its time to learn how to backcomb ladies. Every celebrity, of every age, short hair or long, walking down those red carpets has backcombing in their hair and every stylist knows it the secret to great looking hair. Time to learn!

a) Starting right behind your bangs or face fringe, take a rectangular section about 3-4 inches wide and 1-2 inches deep (see photo). Holding that section straight up, take a brush or comb and backcomb until the roots stand up on their own.
b) Spray section at roots with hairspray. No backcombing will hold for very long without product. For big hair my favorite is Aveda's Pure Abundance. For hair that so heavy or so straight that it doesn't want to hold any backcombing use Big Sexy Hair What a Tease.
c) Repeat sectioning, backcombing and spraying down center of your head (it should look like you kinda have a mohawk). Then finish with two or three horizontal sections on each side of the head.
d) Gently brush over the backcombing and smooth out any visible bumps.

Dealing with Day 3 Hair

Day 3 of unwashed shoulder length or longer hair can be a no-go for many. But if you know the tricks you can often stretch your hair to looking amazing for one more day. Time for an updo!

First, deal with the oily spots. I either spay, clients oily spots, with Dry Shampoo (I recommend Ojon from Sephora) or backcomb through the spots and spray roots with hairspray (the hairspray, especially aerosol, will help dry up the oil). Yes I even backcomb and lightly spray the bangs and down to the ears.

Second, give the crown a lift by backcombing any flat spots. Again spray the roots to prevent the top from flattening out and to control oil.

Third, gently brush the bangs or face fringe into position and spray or pin into place, depending on how you like them. Note: skip this step if you want everything pulled of your face.

Fourth, gently brush the top third to half of your hair back over backcombing and pin or secure with a binder. It should look something like the photo above left. Now your ready for an updo!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fifth, Updo Time!

1) Ponytail Updo: The easiest finish for Day 3 Hair. Simply pull the remaining hair into a pony with a binder. It can be high or low. Centered or to the side. Straight or curly. Be creative!

2) Messy Bun Updo: Start with steps from ponytail updo. Then separate pony into 2 or 3 sections. If your hair is thick simply twist one section into a rope and loosely twist around ponytail binder pinning as you go. Repeat with each section. (Note if your hair is thin or pins slip out of it easily, Backcomb each section from base to mid-shaft before twisting into a rope). For a more 'messy' look leave ends un-pinned and curl.
(backcombing pony tail sections)

3) French Twist Updo: First take all remaining hair and pull it to the left side of your head. Now while holding all the hair to the left side with your left hand, pin bobby pins straight up the center of the back of your head from your neck to parietal (widest point of the head). The more the bobby pins cris cross over each other the better your updo will hold. Once hair is securely pinned pull hair from left side to right (over the pins) and twist! Finally gentally slide pins along head and into twist until secure. If you don't want any hairs sticking out of the top of the twist, gently poke the remaining hairs into the center of the twist and secure by sticking a pin straight down the center. Vwah-la!

Clean out your Cupboard

If your anything like me, you have tons of extra bottles of shampoo n conditioner laying around- but you still want something different. Well here are a few tips to help clean out those bathroom shelfs. Use up that stuff your not using so you can feel less guilty buying new stuff!:

Shampoo: Also doubles great as body wash or hand soap. In fact If you want to save a bit on the cost of hand soap, buy cheap shampoo instead n just refill your hand soap dispenser with it.

Conditioner: Also works great as shaving lotion. Use it first on the legs (less sensitive area) to see how well it works on your skin. The more moisturizing of a conditioner it is the better it will work. (P.s. if you have sensitive skin that gets red bumps easily, try Alba's SHAVE moisturizing cream- love it!)

Hey just a note to let you know that I have made it easier to leave comments now below each post. (I accidentally had it set so you could only leave a post if you were registered -oops!) I love hearing what everyone has so say - and so do all the other readers!

Love Jessica Biel's Hair on the cover of this months Glamour magazine? Stylist to the stars, Mark Townsend, used Light Moroccan Oil Treatment and Dove Body n Lift Volumizing Mousse. Yep like as in the stuff you can buy at Target! So here is my question: Has anyone used the Dove Body n Lift Volumizing Mousse yet? Does it work?
